What is Medical Weight Loss?ย
Medical weight loss is simply weight loss supported by prescription medication. With over 35 years of experience in medical weight loss, the Aspen Clinic is proud to offer several different medication options to its patients. We strive to provide the best medication possible for every patient in order to aid in achieving their health and weight loss goals.
You may be wondering โ which medication is going to work best for ME? โ that is dependent on many factors! Your medical history, current medication use, lifestyle, tolerance, and goals will all be factors the physician takes into account when determining which medication would be best suited for YOU!
Medication Options
Most appetite suppressants on the market are of a stimulatory nature, but not everyone is suited for these medications. The Aspen Clinic is thrilled to now offer aย wide variety of medicationsย through our own compounding pharmacy to be able to treat every patient according to their specific needs.
Tirzepatide/ NAD+ GLP-1 Injectable Rx
Tirzepatide is the newest injectable drug in a group of drugs called GLP-1 receptor agonists.ย In addition to itโs effects on blood sugar and insulin levels, studies have shown that tirzepatide provided substantial and sustained weight loss. The specific tirzepatide dosage and regimen prescribed varies from patient to patient but tirzepatide injections are generally prescribed to administered subcutaneously once per week.
How Does it Work?
- Decreases food intake โ reduces how much food is eaten
- Increases insulin sensitivity โ helping the body release insulin when blood sugar is high
- Enhances first and second phase insulin secretion โ helps the body remove excess sugar from the blood
- Slows gastric emptying โ slows down how quickly food leaves the stomach (this will lessen over time)
- Reduces glucagon levels โ stops the liver from making and releasing too much sugar.
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is an important coenzyme that plays a crucial role in cellular metabolism and energy production. Increased NAD+ levels protects against mitochondrial and ageโrelated disorders – its main benefits being better energy levels, improved metabolic health, anti-aging properties, and enhanced immune performance. Reduced NAD+/NADH ratio is strongly implicated in mitochondrial disorders and, age-related disorders including diabetes, obesity, neurodegeneration and cancer. Impaired adipose NAMPT-NAD+-SIRT1-PPARฮณ axis contributes to the development of obesity and its metabolic complications and thus it could be a promising therapeutic target for obesity treatment.
Semaglutide GLP-1 Injectable Rx
Semaglutideย is a once weekly glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) injection. This medication improves glycemic control and delays gastric emptying. This results in decreased appetite, reduction of food cravings, and improved control of eating.
Semaglutide helps to keep your blood sugar low, to allow fat burning to happen while also slowing gastric emptying to aid in appetite control and keep you feeling fuller longer.
ย What is the difference between tirzepatide and semaglutide?
GLP-1 drugs are a group of new drugs that mimic GLP-1, a hormone the body releases after a meal, signaling you are full and lowering appetite. However, tirzepatide is unique because it attaches to two different receptors (GLP-1 and GIP), unlike previous GLP-1 medications like semaglutide, which only attach to one. Due to its unique dual activity, tirzepatide has shownย greater weight lossย than semaglutide.
Will I gain my weight back as soon as I stop taking GLP-1 medications?
Like all medications that aid in weight loss, they are not a magical cure for obesity! You must use them while learning and developing new lifestyle and eating habits that will sustain your health long term. The Aspen Clinic specializes in educating our patients on long-term lifestyle changes to ensure permanent weight loss, unlike most providers who simply give out medications and send patients home with little to no nutritional advice.
The Aspen Clinic also provides its patients with guidance and support once your goal weight is reached, and we have specific maintenance protocols for GLP-1 users to get off the medication safely, without experiencing weigh gain.ย
Will I lose muscle mass while taking GLP-1 medications?
It is very important to maintain (and even better to build) muscle mass while on a weight loss journey so your body can eliminate fat mass effectively. Muscle mass loss is a concern with GLP-1 medications which is why we use specialized body composition analysis machines to weigh our patients and monitor their muscle mass throughout their weight loss journey. If prescribed a GLP-1 medication, you will additionally be given specific nutritional guidelines to help maintain your muscle mass in addition to the plans given for weight loss.ย

This medication is similar to Bella Capsules in that it reduces appetite and cravings but has less ingredients. It combines a higher dose of Phentermine with Naltrexone and caffeine to enhance energy levels more than Bella Capsules. How do I get a Rx?
First step is making an appointment to meet with the doctor and discuss your options. These medications are only available by a prescription and require a thorough examination by the physician to see if you are a candidate. There is no guarantee you will be prescribed a medication of your choice.
REMINDER โ medications are only intended to AID in the weight loss journey, not do all the work required to lose weight. Without applying the nutritional advice, counseling, and lifestyle changes encouraged on our program, you will not achieve the same results. We do not believe in just sending a patient home with a medication and wishing them good luck โ we strive to provide all of the tools and support needed to get started and stay on track throughout your weight loss journey.ย
Keep in mind that not all patients are candidates for medication, and medication is not a necessary part of the Aspen Clinic program. For those who do not want medication as an aid to their journey, or are ineligible for medication due to other medical factors, ourย Non-Medical Programย is the best option!
We canโt wait to see you reach your weight loss goals!
