About GLP-1 Weight Loss Medications

If you’re interested in exploring your medical weight loss options, the team at our Louisiana weight loss clinics can help you decide if a GLP-1 medication is right for you. The expert staff at the Aspen Clinic has helped countless customers find weight loss methods that work for their goals, and we’re confident we can find a weight loss program that suits your needs, too.

How Do GLP-1 Agonists Work?

GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) agonists function by mimicking the naturally-occurring hormone glucagon, which helps regulate insulin release and digestion. GLP-1 medications attach to the same receptors as glucagon, regulating the processes that digest your food and impacting your blood sugar. A GLP-1 medication will:

  • Trigger insulin release from your pancreas, which lowers your blood sugar and helps your body process the energy in the food you eat
  • Block glucagon secretion, preventing your blood sugar levels from rising
  • Slow your stomach emptying, which means energy from food takes longer to enter your bloodstream, better regulating your blood sugar
  • Help you feel full longer, reducing the urge to eat between meals

What GLP-1 Medications Does the Aspen Clinic Offer?

Our Louisiana weight loss clinics currently offer two types of GLP-1 medication:

  • Tirzepatide & NAD+ (GLP-1 Injectable Rx)
  • Semaglutide & NAD+ (GLP-1 Injectable Rx)

While the dose and regimen will depend on your health history and weight loss goals, both of these weight loss medications are generally administered once a week by subcutaneous injection.

Is a GLP-1 Medication Right for Me?

We recommend scheduling a consultation with our team to determine if a GLP-1 medication is right for you. Weight loss medication may not be right for everyone, and it’s best to carefully review your medical history to determine if a GLP-1 injectable will be safe and effective for you to take. There are some factors that you may want to take into considering when deciding if a GLP-1 medication is right for you:

  • Your overall health
  • Your family history with certain conditions
  • Potential side-effects of GLP-1 medications
  • Your treatment goals
  • Your budget and insurance coverage

Will I Lose Weight from a GLP-1 Medicine Alone?

While many of our clients do see weight loss results after starting a GLP-1 injectable, it’s important to note that you’ll see the best success when you combine weight loss medications with other lifestyle changes, like diet and exercise.

Will I Gain Weight If I Stop Taking a GLP-1?

Just like any other medicine, a GLP-1 medication is only effective while you’re taking it consistently. To maintain the results of a weight loss medication, you should expect to continue taking it long-term.
