Getting your body moving while on a weight loss journey is important. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be hitting the gym or doing some kind of intense workout all of the time. Sometimes a walk or a hike in nature can be just what you need to reset and feel motivated in your journey.

Learn more about some of the best parks in Louisiana to explore throughout the winter season to keep your body moving while taking in some of the state’s most historic landmarks.

Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site

Long-fellow Evangeline State Historic Site explores the cultural impact of diverse people along the famed Bayou Teche. This historical park offers hiking trails, nature programs, tours, and more all while taking in the area’s historical tradition of cultural diversity in the Teche region. The property became the first park of the Louisiana State Parks system in 1934.

Audubon State Historic Site

This historic site is located on the Oakley Plantation in St. Francisville, LA. Visitors can enjoy hiking, nature programs, tours, and the historic Oakley House which was the temporary home of John James Audubon in the early 1800s in which the site was named after.

Centenary State Historic Site

Originally opened as the College of Louisiana in 1826, after 20 years the college closed because of declining enrollment. In 1979 the historic site was added to the National Register of Historic Places and is now a historic site of wildlife viewing, hiking, nature programs, and more. Perfect for getting a hike in while immersing yourself in the history of Jackson Louisiana

Bogue Chitto State Park

At this state park visitors can enjoy a diversity of natural habitats on one of the most scenic rivers in Louisiana. When walking along the 1,786-acre site you will find small streams, cypress-tupelo swamps, a hardwood forest, and rolling landscapes. Perfect for walks, hiking, or biking on the newly opened 14-miles of single track trails for bikers of all skill levels.
