Adrenal glands, also known as suprarenal glands, are small, triangular-shaped glands located on top of both kidneys. Adrenal glands produce hormones that help regulate your metabolism, immune system, blood pressure, response to stress, and other essential functions.
When the body is stressed physically or emotionally there is a high demand placed on the adrenal glands to produce the adrenaline hormone called “epinephrine”. When stressed, the adrenal glands become overused and are unable to synthesize the correct amount of adrenal hormones – resulting in: dehydration, kidney problems, and aging. The adrenal glands produce over 30 hormones to balance your body including cortisol and aldosterone – cortisol is the body’s worst nightmare. When the adrenal glands produce high levels of cortisol, the cortisol will begin to deteriorate muscle. Muscle is what burns fat, so if you’re eating muscle, then all you’re going to do is store fat. This means that your body now goes into a catabolic state, or eating itself.
In addition to stress, dietary habits including the overuse of caffeine, sugar, white flour, and processed sugars can place additional demands on the adrenal glands, causing the body more stress.
What this will do is support the adrenal gland to take the added stress off of them, to stop the excretion of cortisol, so that the body can start building muscle instead of breaking it down.
